3 Mammography Alternatives For Breast Cancer Detection

According to recent statistics, almost 12 percent of all women in the United States suffer from breast cancer. Some people tend to believe that mammograms are the only way to detect the cancer and prevent it from developing further. However, groups like the US Preventive Services Task Force are trying to educate the masses about the effects of frequent mammograms, like radiation exposure and false positives. They have recommended that women cut their exposure to mammograms to reduce the harmful effects. Advancements in medical science has led to the development of many alternatives to mammograms. A number medical experts now recommend other methods like thermography for breast cancer detection.

Here are some of the alternative tests that you can take instead of getting a mammogram for early cancer detection:

1. Thermography

Thermography involves the use of special cameras to create a heat map of your breasts. Since tumors grow faster than other tissues and also have more metabolism, they often show up as hotspots on the images. Thermography screening for cancer detection is non-invasive, safe and can detect active tumors way before a mammogram can.

2. ONCOblot

ONCOblot is a blood test that can be used to detect cancer anywhere in the body. It was created by researchers at Purdue University. It has been considered as game changer in secondary cancer prevention and treatment. The test checks the blood for ENOX2, which is a universal cancer cell marker. It is also powerful enough to identify the type of cancer and its origin. ONCOblot can be used to detect abnormal cells even before they become cancerous, which is known as primary prevention.

3. MRI

Magnetic Resonance Imaging or MRI uses magnetic fields instead of radiation to create an image of the breasts. Because of the fact that it provides high soft tissue contrast, malignant tumors can be easily identified. Some studies have shown that MRIs are more effective than mammograms at detecting invasive breast cancer.
The risks and dangers that come with getting a mammogram can be avoided by opting for the aforementioned tests instead.
